As has been widely reported for months, pop stars Britney Spears and Demi Lovato have joined “The X Factor” as new judges for Season 2, bringing the youth factor to Simon Cowell’ssinging competition.
Fox fought off confirming the rampant speculation so they could trot out their new stars on stage at Fox’s Upfronts presentation in New York, where the singers were finally confirmed Monday as the replacements for fired judges Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger.
Spears and Lovato, both former Disney stars (and both rebounding from personal troubles), were recruited by Cowell, who claims he wanted to boost the show with “star power” next season.
“Can’t believe it’s finally happened. Very exciting!” Cowell tweeted Monday.
Spears is also “so excited” about her new TV gig, which reportedly will pay her roughly $15 million (no wonder she’s excited), while it’s unknown what the 19-year-old Lovato is earning (but it’s likely far, far less).
“We started up well last year, but this year we are going to seriously kick butt,” Cowell claims.
