This Thursday, Kelly Clarkson, John Legend, Jennifer Nettles and Robin Thicke will headline the new ABC singing competition “Duets,” in which each of the superstars gets out from behind the judges’ panel to perform with two contestants.
To get started, the mentors will search for undiscovered talent worthy of being their duet partners, ultimately choosing two singers. Then, Clarkson, Legend, Nettles and Thicke will each perform with both of their selected partners in front of a live studio audience — and the eliminations will begin. The last duet partner standing will win a recording contract with Hollywood Records.
The eight “Duet” partners are:
Bridget Carrington, age 34, from Farmville, Virginia, partnered with John Legend.
Olivia Chisholm, age 21, from Charlotte, North Carolina, partnered with Robin Thicke.
Jason Farol, age 23, from Torrance, California, partnered with Kelly Clarkson.
Alexis Foster, age 21, from Knoxville, TN, partnered with Robin Thicke.
John Glosson, age 32, from Douglas, Georgia, partnered with Jennifer Nettles.
Johnny Gray, age 37, from Shoreline, Washington, partnered with John Legend.
Jordan Meredith, age 21, from Kimberly, Wisconsin, partnered with Kelly Clarkson.
J Rome, age 25, from Laurel, Maryland, partnered with Jennifer Nettles.
But as busy as the “Duets” cast has been, they still have time to turn on the TV from time to time, so we asked them to weigh-in on their favorite shows. Here is what they had to say:
KELLY CLARKSON: I am going to be honest with you. I had a complete 10-year-old moment the other day at the ABC upfronts in New York. They flew us all there after we taped. The next morning we got up and did that. I walked into the room and [there were the casts of] “Once Upon a Time,” “Revenge,” and “Modern Family” right in front of me. I acted like an idiot. I completely went up to Madeline Stowe and said, “I am so sorry, but I am goofing out right now. You are so cool. You are one of my favorite characters. I love the episode where…” I completely nerded out. I have done a lot of cool stuff that you would think I would be used to it right now, but I am not. I hope that never changes. Those are my three favorites right now. Watch Full Episodes of “Revenge” on XfinityTV.com.
JENNIFER NETTLES: I am so horrible. I don’t watch a lot of television. For me, I love “Frozen Planet” and I love “American Pickers.” Because of my schedule and because I am somewhat gadget averted, I don’t get into shows that are a series that then I have to keep up with, or I would have to download. I watch things that I can just catch. I also love the Food Network. I love to cook, so I tend to watch that. I love Paula Deen. That is like food porn. Actually, I would say that Anthony Bourdain would be my favorite. Watch Full Episodes of “American Pickers” on XfinityTV.com.
JOHN LEGEND: I love “Colbert.” He is one of my favorites. He is the best comic performer on television. Then I love “Mad Men.” It is just super well written and interesting to view that era in this way through an ad agency. It is really cool. I also love “Parks and Recreation,” which I think is a good comedy. Watch Full Episodes of “Mad Men” on XfinityTV.com.
QUDDUS: Definitely at the top of the list is “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” because he has a funny way of delivering the news. It is very clever. What can you say about Jon Stewart? Awesome. [I also love] “60 Minutes” to get a little more in depth with the story that are not touched on on the “Daily Show” but to see the conversation with the people in the center of the issue at hand. Those are the only two that come to mind. Watch Full Episode of “The Daily Show” on XfinityTV.com.
ROBIN THICKE: “Game of Thrones” because it is so unpredictable. I have no idea what it is going to happen next scene. People die — just as you start to like them, they kill them. It is sexy. There is nothing like it on TV. I like “Boardwalk Empire” for many of those same reasons. Watch Full Episodes of “Game of Thrones” on XfinityTV.com.
“Duets,” hosted by Quddus, premieres Thursday, May 24 at 8/7c on ABC.
