If you thought Donald Trump had placed the controversy over President Obama’s birth origins on a back burner, then guess again.

The New York real estate developer, reality-TV star and one-time candidate for President of the United States got back on the “birther” bandwagon Tuesday in a heated phone interview with Wolf Blitzer on CNN.

The interview — conducted by Blitzer on the set of his weekday show, “The Situation Room,” with Trump on the phone from Las Vegas — was a battle of wills from the get-go with Trump opening the conversation by complaining about the story CNN broadcast to introduce the interview segment. You can watch what happened next in the clip, above.

Among other things, Blitzer called Trump “ridiculous” for Trump’s insistence that a birth notice published in a Honolulu newspaper in 1961 — announcing the birth of Barack Obama — was somehow faked, and part of a larger conspiracy to obscure the “fact” that the current President of the United States was born in another country, in violation of the United States Constitution.

Our take: We had thought Trump had dropped this issue long ago — more than a year ago, in fact, at about the same time that the Obama administration staged the assassination of Osama Bin Laden. It was that same week that the state of Hawaii finally issued a “live birth” certificate that seemed to prove to most people that the President was born in Hawaii.

But we’re not complaining. We’ve always said that Donald Trump, the star of “The Celebrity Apprentice” on NBC and a headline magnet at least since the 1980s, was God’s gift to journalism. He’s a non-stop source of stories such as this one, for which we can’t stop thanking him.
