It was a hard moment to watch Wednesday — when “Today” co-host Kathie Lee Gifford mistakenly asked about Martin Short‘s late wife — but there are no hard feelings as far as the actor is concerned.
Short is graciously giving the morning-show host a pass for the cringe-worthy faux pas, calling it an honest mistake when Gifford asked Martin the secret to his happy, 36-year marriage to wife Nancy Dolan … unaware that Short’s wife died in 2010 after battling ovarian cancer.
“I think that it’s live television and people make mistakes and there’s no ill will intended,” Short told E! News the day after Gifford’s gaffe, while out promoting his new film, “Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted.”
“And I think it’s nice to aspire to be that way,” he added.
Way to keep it classy, Martin Short!
The mortifying mistake light up the Internet Wednesday afternoon, where an apologetic Gifford addressed the buzzed-about moment on Twitter:
“I send my sincerest apologies to @MartinShort and his family. He handled situation w/enormous grace and kindness and I’m so grateful.”
