“Nurse Jackie” has been renewed for a fifth season, Showtime announced Thursday.
The network also revealed the upcoming season will be helmed by new showrunner Clyde Phillips, the former “Dexter” boss, who replaces departing co-creators Linda Wallem and Liz Brixius.
“Clyde brings a unique combination of skills in both comedy and drama, and he is a master at making entertaining and compelling television,” Showtime entertainment chief David Nevins said of his new hire in a statement.
The deep, dark comedy about a pill-popping nurse, which stars Edie Falco, Peter Facinelli, Bobby Cannavale and Eve Best, has averaged 2.8 million total weekly viewers in its current fourth season.
