America’s Goth Talent: ‘AGT’ Contestant Shocks Judges with Amazing Falsetto

Andrew De Leon on America's Got Talent (NBC)

No one could have anticipated that! Straight from the department of Don’t Judge a Book by its Cover comes Andrew De Leon, a 19-year-old make-up artist who wowed the “America’s Got Talent” audience and judges Tuesday night with his impressive falsetto.

De Leon, a self-admitted introvert who said he felt alienated as a kid, appeared on the Austin audition stage in full goth: ice blue contact lenses, heavy black guyliner, and long black hair. Visibly nervous, De Leon told Nick Cannon he’d never performed in front of anyone before: not his family, not his friends – no one.  After some playful ribbing from Howard Stern (“Rough day at the office?” Stern quipped after sizing up the Marilyn Manson look-alike), De Leon loosened up and began singing in a pitch-perfect opera voice.

As the shocked audience began to tear and cheer, all three judges stood up, offering a resounding “yes” to De Leon.

“I’m just so used to being rejected and I’m not really good at anything, so this is amazing,” De Leon confessed. “It’s not that you’re good at anything,” Howie Mandell corrected. “You’re great.”
