The Miss USA pageant is dismissing ugly allegations made by one of its beauty queens when Miss Pennsylvania Sheena Monnin quit claiming the competition is “fixed.”
Monnin, 27, who had not made the cut for the Top 16, first made the rigging claims on her Facebook page, saying a fellow contestant accidentally found a list of the Top 5 contestants before the show took place. All five names on the list ended up being correct and were announced on stage in that order, with Miss Rhode Island Olivia Culpa going on to win the 2012 Miss USA crown.
“In good conscience I can no longer be affiliated with an organization I consider to be fraudulent, lacking in morals, inconsistent, and in many ways trashy,” Monnin wrote after giving up her Miss Pennsylvania crown following Sunday’s pageant.
Pageant officials said in a statement that Monnin’s accusations are “false” and claim the real reason the “conservative” Monnin resigned was because she disagreed with the organization’s policy to admit a transgendered contestant. Pageant organizers say they have an email from Monnin that cites the transgender issue as the reason for her resignation, and that she’s now “changed her story.”
Meanwhile, the contestant who allegedly found the Top 5 list now denies its existence.
The war of words escalated when the Miss Universe Organization’s co-owner Donald Trump called in to “The Today Show” to respond to the controversy.
“It is SO ridiculous,” Trump says. Watch the Clip.
Naturally, Trump plans to sue.
