Joseph Fiennes is close to signing a deal to join the cast of FX’s “American Horror Story” as a series regular for Season 2.
Fiennes, 42, would play the “tortured” head of the mental institution where Jessica Lange’s character works, reports Entertainment Weekly, adding that the pair would share a May-December romance — also likely to be “tortured” given the nature of the show.
If the negotiations are successful, and they likely will be as the “Shakespeare in Love” star has previously worked with creator Ryan Murphy on the film “Running with Scissors,” then Fiennes will join previously announced second-season additions James Cromwell, Chloe Sevigny (“Big Love”) and Adam Levine (“The Voice”).
As for returning cast members, Season 1’s Zachary Quinto, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Lily Rabe and Lange are all back — with the twist being that they are all playing new characters.
Fiennes was last seen on TV in ABC’s “FlashForward” and Starz’s “Camelot.”
