Pop star Justin Bieber better bone up on his art history the next time he shows up on David Letterman’s “Late Show” on CBS. There just might be a pop quiz!
Thursday night, the 18-year-old teen idol exposed a serious deficiency in his personal art knowledge when a statement he made revealed that he had never heard of the location of one of the world’s most famous works of art — the Sistine Chapel at the Vatican.
When Dave mentioned the internationally renowned location of painter Michelangelo’s most famous work — the chapel’s famed ceiling fresco, The Bieb called it the “Sixteenth Chapel.”
The art history gaffe — which you’ll see if you watch the clip, above — took place when Dave expressed dismay that Bieber had just added a new tattoo — the word “Believe” — on his left arm. “Believe” happens to be the title of Bieber’s new CD. Fatherly Dave told the young recording star that he hoped Bieber wouldn’t then keep adding to his arm tattoos until he had them running up and down his arms, like some sort of Sistine Chapel.
“I’m not going for the Sixteenth Chapel!” Bieber said, to which Dave replied: “Canadian high schools!” (a reference to Bieber’s Canadian origins).
