Great news for “Longmire” fans: The A&E series has been renewed for a second season.

The reports are all over the place this weekend on various show business Web sites, including The Hollywood Reporter here.

The renewal comes as no big surprise to us — we’re loving this new series about a laconic county sheriff investigating crimes and trying to keep the peace in sparsely populated Wyoming.

“Longmire” stars Robert Taylor in the title role, Katee Sackhoff as one of his deputies and Lou Diamond Phillips as Longmire’s friend, a bar owner.

Based on the ratings, this renewal is no surprise either. “Longmire,” now well into its fourth season, premiered just four weeks ago with 4.1 million viewers, the best debut ever for a scripted show on A&E. “Longmire” has taken up residence Sunday nights at 10/9c on A&E, right after new episodes of “The Glades” at 9/8c.

That sounds like a great combination to us.
