CBS Will Pack Premiere Week with New Series, Returning Hits

Top-rated comedy “The Big Bang Theory” will return for its sixth season on Thursday, Sept. 27 — part of CBS’s plan to maintain the “premiere week” tradition.

CBS unveiled its fall launch strategy on Wednesday.

And true to form, TV’s most traditional broadcast network will launch its new series and bring back its returning hits almost entirely during the so-called Premiere Week, which this year begins on Monday, Sept. 24, and ends on Sunday, Sept. 30.

CBS is the one network you can count on most to uphold this kind of time-honored pattern for starting a new fall season, while for other networks, the Premiere Week concept is not as sacred.

All of the networks will have some shows premiering their new seasons during that same week, but some networks such as NBC, for example, have already announced their intention to introduce portions of their new lineups both before and after Premiere Week.

The sole exception to the Premiere Week launches on CBS will be the new season of “Survivor” — “Survivor: Philippines” — which will start a week earlier, on Wednesday, Sept. 19, with a 90-minute premiere.

Here’s the fall roll-out schedule CBS announced Wednesday (all times are eastern):
