With the high number of country acts to emerge from the “American Idol” stage, it’s surprising they didn’t think of this sooner.
Fox is said to be on the hunt for a big male name to sit at the judges’ table next season, alongside the just-confirmed new judge Mariah Carey. A decision is expected soon.
Paisley has previously performed on “Idol,” so he has the connection, and choosing someone from the widely popular country genre would be a logical choice, considering “Idol’s” biggest success story — Carrie Underwood — is a country star, as well as last year’s winner Scotty McCreery.
On Monday, Fox officially announced that Carey has joined the singing competition as a judge for next season. She’ll reportedly earn a whopping $18 million for the gig — $1 million more than Jennifer Lopez had demanded before she was dropped/walked away from the show a few weeks ago.
