Hunky French actor Gilles Marini decided to compete on “Dancing with the Stars: All-Stars,” despite suffering a serious foot injury earlier this summer, he told xfinityTV in an exclusive interview.
As we’ve previously reported, fan favorite Gilles, who lost a squeaker of a competition to gymnast Shawn Johnson in Season 8, had a freak accident in June that resulted in foot surgery. “Broke off a needle in my foot:( ( painful,” he said on Twitter@GillesMarini. The star’s Colorado surgeon removed the needle, and Gilles even posted the “gruesome” surgery on Twitter.
But on Friday after the Television Critics Association “DWTS: All-Stars” cast announcement, Gilles admitted to xfinityTV that his foot will never be the same. “I think four of my nerves were completely severed. I won’t feel my toe for the rest of my life, but, hey, screw that! I’m doing this! I never give up. I have no problem.”

The “Brothers and Sisters” star reminded us that this won’t be the first time he’s danced in pain. He dealt with a dance injury during his season when “my shoulder was completely fractured. I had a four and a half hour surgery. I didn’t give up. I can’t give up. This is not in my nature. And now that I became an American, even more.”
Gilles explained he became a U.S. citizen last month. And he’s already hoping that will give him an edge with viewers in the upcoming All-Stars edition. “Now I’m really an American, so if they think they vote for a Frenchman, they are wrong. I am also American now!”
Ah, yes, the home of the brave.
“DWTS: All-Stars” premieres Monday, September 24, at 8/7c on ABC.
