In an emotional interview on “Oprah’s Next Chapter” Sunday night, a tearful Rihanna confessed she still loves rapper Chris Brown, three years after he was arrested for assaulting her.
The headline-making incident on the eve of the Grammys in 2009 was “humiliating” and “hurtful,” Rhianna says, however she instinctively felt protective of Brown in the aftermath. Brown pleaded guilty to felony assault and was sentenced to community service, five years of probation and domestic violence counseling.
“Everything I knew switched in a night and I couldn’t control that,” Rihanna told Oprah Winfrey in an interview from the singer’s home in Barbados. “As angry as I was, as angry, hurt and betrayed I just felt like he made that mistake because he needed help. Everybody’s gonna say he’s a monster without looking at the source. Who’s gonna help him?”
