ABC has just released the guest line-up for “Katie,” Katie Couric’s highly anticipated new daytime talk show premiering on September 10. With a focus on “women who are reinventing themselves,” Couric will dive head first into a mixture of interviews with female entertainment industry heavyweights like Sheryl Crow; Jessica Simpson; and Chelsea Handler, and serious newsmakers Aimee Copeland, the victim of a flesh-eating bacteria; and Sharon and Lexie Love, whose daughter and sister Yeardley Love, was murdered two years ago by her ex-boyfriend at the University of Virginia.
The new roster reinforces what Couric told reporters at TCA last month— that the show will feature a variety of subjects, some light-hearted, fun and celebrity-driven, and other more substantial stories.
“I feel as if my portfolio is really varied and I pride myself on being able to use the right tone and the right approach, and to be able to calibrate that tone depending on who I’m dealing with on any given day,” Couric said.
Absent from the list of guests is Sarah Palin, whom Couric has made no secret about attempting to court for her daytime debut.
Also included in the list of planned guests are 50 Shades of Grey author E L James; “Project Runway” host Heidi Klum; new “X Factor” judge Demi Lovato; former “American Idol” judge Jennifer Lopez; “Modern Family” star Sofia Vergara; talk-show host Wendy Williams; Susan Sarandon; and a rare television appearance by Barbra Streisand.
Below, the guest run-down for the first two days:
Sept 10: Jessica Simpson, who will reveal what life is like after having her first child this past May; and Sheryl Crow, who’s written the theme song for “Katie” and will open up about her recently-diagnosed brain tumor.
Sept. 11: Aimee Copeland, a graduate student who lost parts of all her limbs to a rare flesh-eating bacteria earlier this summer. Still facing a rigorous recovery process and learning to use her prosthetics.
