When “Bones” returns for its eighth season on September 17, Christopher Palant (Andrew Leeds) has completely torn apart Booth’s (David Boreanaz) and Brennan’s (Emily Deschanel) lives. Brennan, Max (Ryan O’Neal) and baby Christine are on the run because murder charges await Brennan back in Washington, D.C. Meanwhile, Booth is under suspicion of having knowledge of her whereabouts and not reporting it.

But even after things settle down and return to a new normal with the usual murder, mayhem, and very gross corpses, for the 150th episode, Executive Producers Hart Hanson and Stephen Nathan reveal they will be taking a break from the ordinary with a “weird” episode. What makes it unique is that it is going to be told from the viewpoint of the victim, who will be a young boy.

“We needed a very heart-tugging story, so the person whose death we are solving is an actual character,” says Hanson. “We don’t usually use kids because we can’t laugh. It is not a funny episode. It is an outsider’s, very single view of our team at work. In a way it shows what the camera doesn’t usually show — it shows how each of our characters interact with a victim when no one is looking but the victim. It is a little melancholy.”

Cyndi Lauper is guest starring in the 150th episode as a psychic, who is aware that the victim is watching the team as they try to solve the crime. Because of her awareness, she is trying to discover what the boy needs so he can move on — and it is not having his murder solved. It is something else.

“It is a very unique episode — both how it is shot and the tone of it,” says Nathan. “It has been a real challenge to put together. A challenge like that usually gives you the most satisfaction. Everybody has come together for this one. Not only was it a great script, it was beautifully directed and the actors are terrific. Now our visual effects team is working on it as well as our sound mixers. It is really a very rich episode.”
