NBC newsman Tom Brokaw reports that “all is well” following a health scare in Charlotte, N.C., Thursday morning.

Brokaw, 72, was rushed to a Charlotte hospital after he began feeling ill on the set of MSNBC’s morning talk show, “Morning Joe.” He was then evaluated at the hospital as doctors tried to determine what brought on a brief spell in which he suddenly felt “light-headed.”

In a Tweet Brokaw posted later Thursday morning here, he blamed his momentary health crisis on a half-tablet of Ambien.

“All is well Early AM I mistakenly took a half dose of Ambien and made less sense than usual,” he wrote. “Made a better comeback than [the New York] Giants…” (a reference to the Giants’ loss Wednesday night to the Dallas Cowboys).

Before he Tweeted the news that he’s A-OK, NBC News released a statement Thursday morning about Brokaw.

“On the set of ‘Morning Joe’ this morning, Tom Brokaw felt light-headed,” the statement said, according to reports on multiple news Web sites. “Out of an abundance of caution, he was taken to a hospital. He is being evaluated and is in good spirits,” the statement said.

Brokaw is in Charlotte as a contributor and analyst for NBC’s ongoing coverage of the Democratic National Convention.
