James Brolin has signed on to guest star on “Community” playing … Joel McHale‘s dad.

The Emmy winner will appear in the Thanksgiving episode of the NBC sitcom, according to Entertainment Weekly, where he’ll play Jeff Winger’s estranged dad William.

When Shirley (Yvette Nicole Brown) hosts a Turkey Day gathering at her place with the study group, Jeff winds up at his father’s house. Considering Jeff hasn’t seen his pop since he was a child, awkwardness is sure to ensue.

On Tuesday, McHale Tweeted a photo of the on-screen father-son duo from the set, saying, “On set at #Community with the great, terrific, & cool #JamesBrolin.”

“Community” moves to Friday nights this fall when it returns for its fourth season beginning Oct. 19 on NBC.
