NEW YORK (TheWrap.com) – “Inglourious Basterds” star Diane Kruger has signed on as the lead actress for FX’s drama series pilot, “The Bridge,” a cross-cultural detective series about two cops, one American and one Mexican, tracking a serial killer on the U.S.-Mexican border.

The German Kruger will play Det. Sonya North, the cop from – you guessed it – the north. Her tactless, utterly candid detective is paired with a Mexican investigator who has better people skills and a loving family.

“The Bridge” was adapted for American television by Meredith Stiehm (“Homeland”) and Elwood Reid (“Hawaii Five-0”). It was adapted from the Scandinavian series “i Bron.” It is executive produced by Stiehm and Reid, as well as Carolyn Bernstein, Lars Blomgren and Jane Featherstone, and is a co-production of Shine America and FX Productions.

“The Bridge” begins production this fall on location in El Paso and in Los Angeles, with “Miss Bala” director Gerardo Naranjo at the helm.
