Mario Lopez may have “The X Factor” that Simon Cowell is looking for in a host.

Lopez, who currently hosts the entertainment news show “Extra,” is expected to be named the new co-host of “The X Factor,” according to a report in The New York Post.

He joins the widely reported rumors that reality star Khloe Kardashian has nabbed the female hosting role. While E! is allegedly reluctant to share its “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” star with another network, we’re guessing momager-mogul Kris Jenner will settle any contractual issues and make it happen for Khloe.

The announcement is expected as soon as this weekend, says The Post.

Lopez would keep his post at “Extra,” but the new high-profile gig could explain why Lopez claimed he was asked but is “too busy” to participate on this fall’s “DWTS: All-Stars” season, which premieres Monday.

The duo, who replaces axed “X” host Steve Jones, marks the last piece of the puzzle in Cowell’s revamp of the Fox singing competition, which added new judges Britney Spears and Demi Lovato for Season 2.

Lopez, 38, and Kardashian, 28, would begin their hosting roles when “The X Factor” kicks off live episodes next month.
