Katie Couric made a surprising revelation on Monday’s episode of “Katie,” which focused on eating disorders and opened the door for the daytime host to reveal her own secret struggle with bulimia in the past.

“I wrestled with bulimia all through college and for two years after that,” Couric, 55, confessed during the episode.

“I know this rigidity, this feeling that if you eat one thing that’s wrong, you’re full of self-loathing and then you punish yourself,” she said. “Whether it’s one cookie or a stick of gum that isn’t sugarless, that I would sometimes I’d beat myself up for that.”

“That is such a huge thing for people who wrestle with this,” Couric said.

Couric says she was able to get her eating disorder under control by her early 20s with the help of a therapist.

Couric’s guest was Disney Channel star Demi Lovato, now a judge on Fox’s “The X Factor,” who discussed her experience battling an eating disorder and cutting, which ultimately sent her into treatment in 2010. She was also forthcoming about being bullied, and how her poor body image and self-confidence issues began at a very early age.

“I remember being three years old in a diaper and rubbing my hand over my stomach … and I remember thinking in my head, ‘I wonder if one day this will ever be flat?'” Lovato explained.
