Could producers of FX comedy “It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia” really be interested in a complete cast overhaul?
Of course not. But imagine, if you will, the series without Charlie Day, Dennis Reynolds, Rob McElhenney, Kaitlin Olson and Danny DeVito and instead picture a cast that includes the likes of Haley Joel Osment, UFC fighter Chael Sonnen, Xzibit, “Full House” cast member Candace Cameron and Andrew Dice Clay in the lead roles of the series.
That is exactly what happened in a new spoof trailer hitting the web to promote the eighth season of the sitcom which returns on Oct. 11 on FX.
In the new mockumentary-style video, FX executives found out that audiences loved that new cast better than the old crew, with FX President John Landgraf explaining that “They were fired. We brought in a new cast, tested it with audiences, and they liked it even better.”
Of course, members of the original cast claim that it was their choice to leave because they wanted to spend more time with family (except for DeVito, who wasn’t aware that he had been canned and replaced by Clay). They also seem to have a hard time digesting some of the changes, such as the fact that Charlie will now be female.
