For everyone who thought that Selena Gomez outgrew her Disney Channel ties, think again.

The popular actress will once again take on the role of Alex in a movie for Disney Channel based on her former series “Wizards of Waverly Place,” according to The Hollywood Reporter. On the project (which she will also be executive producing), she will reunite with the likes of series stars Jake T. Austin, Maria Canals-Barrera, David DeLuise, Jennifer Stone and Gregg Sulkin.

The TV movie will pick up where the series finale left off last January, and the show’s characters will travel to Italy to meet relatives. During the trip, Gomez’ character creates a spell that creates both a good Alex and a bad Alex. According to the story, “when Alex gets roped into a charming young wizard’s foreboding plan to take over the world, ‘good’ Alex must find a way to save her family and humankind, which leads to a battle between the two versions of herself on the Leaning Tower of Pisa.”

The special will air on Disney Channel sometime in early 2013.
