UPDATE: Antoine Ashley died from heart failure Monday at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Md., his manager, David Charpentier, revealed in a statement.
Antoine Ashley, better known as Sahara Davenport of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” fame, has died at the age of 27.
No cause of death has been cited. Logo announced the news Tuesday in a statement posted on Facebook:
“Logo is profoundly saddened by the passing of Antoine Ashley who fans around the world knew and loved as Sahara Davenport. He was an amazing artist and entertainer who’ll be deeply missed by his Logo family. Our hearts and prayers go out to his family, especially his boyfriend Karl, in their time of need.”
“Drag Race” judge Michelle Visage also confirmed the news with a message on Twitter:
“It’s true and I have no words. Have to sign off for now kids, can’t handle this. XOXO.”

After receiving his Bachelor of Fine Arts in dance from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Ashley moved to New York City and pursued his career as a drag queen performer. Sahara Davenport became a popular contestant on 2010’s second season of the reality TV contest that searches for “America’s Next Drag Superstar.”
In addition to “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” Davenport appeared on “One Life to Live” and released a single earlier this year called “Go Off,” which hit No. 35 on Billboard’s Hot Dance Club Songs chart.
