Joey Fatone was judged to be not so ‘NSYNC on “Dancing with the Stars: All-Stars.” Tuesday night was his swan song with partner Kym Johnson on the hit ABC reality show.
Their elimination on Week 2 of the show was something of a surprise, since their Charlie Chaplin/silent movie inspired quickstep got a decent score of 22.5. Three other celebrities scored lower, including Bristol Palin, who was dead last, earning only 18 points with pro Mark Ballas. But on Monday night, judges had deemed Joey more of an entertainer than a dancer, and it meant the end for the loveable Season 4 runner up.
Ever the jokester, Joey pretended to cry on the red carpet after the show, saying, “Oh, my God! I just wanted to entertain!”
More seriously, he told reporters, “The whole thing was, it’s exciting, it’s fun. I think we did it to the best of our abilities. It happens.”

His partner Kym concurred, saying, “I feel like we did a good job last night. Everyone seemed to like the dance. The judges even said it was the most entertaining. I was feeling comfortable.”
But Joey was left scratching his head, thinking Len Goodman, Carrie Ann Inaba, and Bruno Tonioli sent a mixed message: “[They said] ‘it was terrible. But I loved it!’ ”
Still, Joey was far from devastated. He told Kym from the beginning, “as long as I didn’t go first, I’m happy. We’re not disappointed in what we did. I think we’re disappointed that we had so much more to do. There were a lot more other things that we wanted to do and didn’t get a chance to.”
Kym added, “We work well together and we have all these great ideas. We’re just sad about that.”
Joey couldn’t be happier that he decided to participate in All-Stars: “It was a blast. I think a lot of people are going to be like, ‘we’re going to miss hanging out. Well, have fun. Good luck!’ ”

Despite their mock boy-band smack talk this season, Joey said he’ll vote for 98 Degrees star Drew Lachey — but surprisingly, he also will support his Season 4 rival Apolo Anton Ohno, who won the mirror ball trophy while Joey finished second. “I feel he’s the only one representing my season so I hope he’ll be in the top three.”
Joey plans to continue with Season 2 of his show “My Family Recipe Rocks” on Live Well Network. And he always has a lot cooking in his private life: “I’m going to my buddy’s wedding and then I’m going to be with my wife and my kids.”
His advice for Drew Lachey, who narrowly avoided elimination in Week 1 and performed much better this week? “Don’t suck,” Joey smiled.
