With his successor on the job a month now, Regis Philbin weighed in with his thoughts on sports star Michael Strahan sitting in his old seat every morning next to Kelly Ripa on “Live! with Kelly and Michael.”
Yes, The Reege gives his blessing to the likable former New York Giants football player, whom he calls “an idol in New York City.”
“He’s got a good sense of humor. He’s a good guy. I think they’re doing great,” Philbin told Us Weekly Thursday at the Exploring the Arts Gala in New York City.
Last month when asked by TMZ for the one piece of advice he’d give to the new morning team, Regis responded, “Be patient with one another.”
Philbin, 81, hosted “Live!” for nearly 25 years (Ripa replaced Kathie Lee Gifford in 2001) and walked away from the show in November 2011.
Strahan debuted on Monday, Sept. 4 as Ripa’s permanent new co-host after a year-long search for Regis’s replacement.
Meanwhile, Strahan seems to be a hit… You know you’ve made an impact when you get a send-up on “Saturday Night Live” — the late-night sketch show did a few weeks ago.
