Helio Castroneves tried to race to the top of “Dancing with the Stars” once again, but on this competitive “All-Stars” season, the Indy car legend was wrecked by a wardrobe malfunction.
The charming Brazilian, who won Season 5 after dancing in a yellow suit that everyone will remember, stepped on partner Chelsie Hightower’s poofy dress during their Monday night dance. Even though judges otherwise loved their quickstep routine, and Len Goodman had said Helio deserved to stay, it wasn’t to be. A tie for third place with 25.5 points wouldn’t be good enough. After being in the Bottom Two with his former Season 5 costar Sabrina Bryan on Tuesday, it was Helio who was sent packing.
After the show, Helio showed his usual upbeat spirit, telling reporters, “It’s a show. It’s about the audience. If you don’t have the scores, you’ve gotta have the votes and that’s what it’s all about. I think the racing community was overconfident that everything was fine. It didn’t happen.”

He added, “In my opinion, as a competitor, yes, you’re disappointed because you did your best, but you understand sometimes when you win and when you lose and you gotta deal with it. As a person, I got a great opportunity to come over here and have fun, and I’m thankful for having an incredible partner to teach me how to dance free, which was the best part.
“It’s great. I have no regrets. For me, it was a perfect scenario because I got to see incredible people again. That’s probably what I’m going to miss most and it’s special just to be with the All-Stars champions. It was an honor.”

Naturally, Helio will be back roaring around the track soon! “Now I’m going to go back to racing, get ready for the next thing,” he said. Chelsie can’t wait to cheer her friend on; she plans to attend the Indy 500 next year.
The race car driver said he’ll keep the pinstriped suit he wore for his last dance on the show, which was almost as natty as his original yellow suit. “What a best way to finish, with the zoot suit, the thing that I love, and certainly, I don’t think ABC is going to see this suit back,” Helio smiled.
Chelsie chimed in about her jinxed dress, “They won’t see this one, either, because it will be in a fire!”
Meanwhile, Helio told xfinityTV that even the short stint on “DWTS” gave him “a great workout. I was losing a lot [of weight]. I believe I’m about 143 right now and it’s been seven years since I have been that weight so I’ve gotta put it back again. I’ve been taking some protein.”
He refused to pick a favorite to win “All-Stars”: “Everyone is awesome. It’s hard for me just to say one person. I get along with everybody and the best man or woman wins this competition!”
