Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney has canceled a scheduled appearance on Thursday’s episode of “The View,” sending his wife Ann onto the program solo.

“View” co-host Barbara Walters announced the news on Monday’s show:

“Gov. Romney was supposed to be on with us this Thursday with Ann Romney. We were looking forward to it,” Walters explained. “Over the weekend, his people said that he had scheduling problems and would not be coming on with us. Nor at this point did he feel that he could reschedule.”

“He can change his mind and we hope he does,” she added. “It would be our pleasure to have him on the program.”

While “scheduling problems” are cited as the reason, the media is immediately jumping to his “high risk” claims about entering the “View” viper pit.

Romney scheduled the appearance last month, after he was heard on that now infamous “47%” secret video from September saying that he believed going on “The View” was “high risk” because “of the five women on it, only one is conservative, and four are sharp-tongued and not conservative.”
