TV viewers still have an appetite for zombie thrillers and killers.

The third season of “The Walking Dead” returned to monster ratings Sunday night.

The AMC drama pulled in a very impressive 10.9 million total viewers and 7.3 million viewers (and a 5.8 rating) in the key adults 18-49 demo. That’s a whopping 50% increase over the Season 2 premiere!

Besides annihilating its own record, the “Walking Dead” Season 3 premiere, which found the survivors overtaking a prison full of surprises, now ranks as the most-watched basic cable drama ever.

“Thank you to the fans for making ‘The Walking Dead’ such a tremendous success,” said Charlie Collier, president of AMC. “We are honored and humbled that television’s largest adult audience resides on AMC. So many people on both sides of the camera worked tirelessly on this project, and I thank and congratulate each of them for their amazing contribution.”
