Here’s what else the celebrities and their partners dished about backstage:
Shake It, Sarah!: Former VP candidate Sarah Palin was in the ballroom again Monday to cheer on her dancing daughter Bristol Palin and partner Mark Ballas. And Sarah wound up dancing with the crowd during an audience participation number led by Sabrina Bryan and Louis Van Amstel during a commercial break. After the show, Cheetah Girl Sabrina smiled of the off-camera action (which reporters were able to glimpse on the monitor), “I knew mama Palin had it in her! I knew mama Palin was going to help.” And Louis smiled, “Of course!”
I’m Too Sexy: Shawn Johnson donned a revealing, cleavage-baring showgirl-style outfit for her mambo with partner Derek Hough and confided to xfinityTV backstage, “The costume freaked me out.” When the Iowa-born former Olympic gymnast was asked if it was too sexy for her, she smiled, “Yeah. It’s just not me. I mean, I’m a girl.” But the 20-year-old competitor, the youngest on the show, braved it and was pleased with their great routine, if still not sold on the skin-baring costume.
Melissa’s Guilty Pleasure: If they make it through to next week, the celebrities are required to reveal their guilty pleasures. And Melissa Rycroft said viewers will see from her and partner Tony Dovolani “a bona fide guilty pleasure. I picked it and I think everybody will like it.” Tony added cryptically, “This guilty pleasure — very few people will admit to it but pretty much everybody enjoys [it], including men.”
A Penis for Your Thoughts: Gilles Marini and Peta Murgatroyd brought the house down with their colorful Bollywood routine. But you’ll be surprised to learn how Peta motivated the French actor to be sexy in the dance. After Peta gave him permission, Gilles revealed to reporters, “She said, ‘kick your penis all the way up to that roof. Slap it up there!’ Every time I did the move I looked up. I said, ‘did you see my penis?'” On the red carpet, he then told his partner, who has become a close friend, “I’m just doing so good tonight. I love you.”
Judges Get an F: While Karina dropped the F Bomb during rehearsal, Maksim Chmerkovskiy did the same backstage after the show. He and partner Kirstie Alley received the lowest score of the night — a 30 out of 40 — for their difficult Charleston routine. When asked why the judges gave them praise and then scored them poorly, Maks laughed, “F— ‘em!” Then Kirstie cracked up reporters when she sang in an East Indian accent (in a warped tribute to Gilles and Peta’s Bollywood dance?), “The score sucked. The score sucked!”
Soap Opera Twist: Although his partnership with Kelly Monaco has been getting rave reviews, Val Chmerkovskiy revealed the chemistry didn’t come easily with the tomboy “General Hospital” beauty. At first, she was “literally ignoring texts and phone calls, [being] unreachable with no explanation. I’m like, ‘Babe, you know I’m out here for you. I live in New York. I don’t live in L.A. You could at least answer my call and get some practice in.’ … Nothing!” Val recalled to reporters. Then they had a turnaround out of a soap opera and on Monday night, they danced a sensual contemporary number that won a score of 37.5. Val is thrilled now with Kelly and knows, “She’s a talented individual with a work ethic and perseverance. She fights.”
