“Suburgatory” star Jeremy Sisto joined the ladies of “The View” to discuss his role on the hit ABC sitcom on Wednesday, but, like any good journalists, it didn’t take the hosts long to dig up some of the more scandalous details of the actor’s past.
While Sisto was known in the ’90s for his rule as high school Lothario Elton in the 1994 teen hit “Clueless,” the star revealed that his first acting gig was far less family-friendly.
“My first movie was a porno,” explained Sisto. “It’s not easy getting into the business, you know. I was eight, I believe. I had just done plays and commercials, and I’m sure I was happy to get a movie.”
“Your mother put you in a porno?” asked a shocked Barbara Walters.
Sisto went on to explain, “It was a short movie within a larger movie of short movies that had a theme, [but] I didn’t know what the theme was until years later.”
“Years later, my mom said, ‘Your movie’s playing at the local theater.’ It was playing at, like, 11 AM on a Tuesday, so I knew it wasn’t going to be a big success. I went with my mom and the ticket taker was very uncomfortable with us being there. There was a bunch of single men sitting in different seats as far away from each other as possible. The first skit was a mock Phil Donahue comedy bit, and then there was my section, and I was cut out of it, so, I guess that’s a fortunate thing. And the next one was an orchestra of women and a conductor man, and they all started stripping and having sex. My mom turned to me and said, ‘Would you like to stay, honey?’ She was very liberal.”
While the star may have had a strange foray in his introduction to the entertainment industry, the story of his proposal to wife Addie Lane may actually top it.
“I didn’t have a model of this kind of thing growing up. So, for me, there was only one way to do it: head first with teeth clenched and fists clenched, and just thrashing around,” said Sisto.
“I told her everything about her that I loved — the reasons I wanted to make her my wife — the life I wanted to have and build with her, everything about my stuff I wanted to change. It went on for a while, and she was giving me nothing, she was very stubborn — nothing, not a sniffle — and then I realized the phone had been dead for about half an hour… so from her point of view, I hung up on her mid-proposal and just didn’t call back.”
Despite the technical failures keeping them apart, the couple married in 2009, becoming parents to daughter Charlie Ballerina and son Bastian Kick.
The second-season premiere of “Suburgatory” airs tonight at 9:30/8:30c on ABC.
