“Have no idea what is happening to the schedule tonight,” Simon Cowell Tweeted after Fox abruptly yanked “The X Factor’s” Top 16 episode and switched to baseball. “Have heard the whole episode will be shown next Tuesday. Sorry.”
“It what’s known as a total f up,” Cowell added.
Another reason why Simon is probably not pleased with the stormy switcheroo? It means the rescheduled “X Factor” episode will now air against rival show “The Voice” next Tuesday.
Rain ruined the night for baseball fans and “X Factor” fans Wednesday, when weather delayed Game 3 of the National League Championships Series, striking out about 45 minutes of the previously scheduled reality show.
Slated for Wednesday was the result of the judges’ (supposed) homes round, in which each judge was to narrow down their teams from six to four contestants.
But only 10 contestants out of the final 16 made it to the screen before Fox pulled “The X Factor” to resume the NLCS Game 3 between the San Francisco Giants and the St. Louis Cardinals (the West Coast saw Fox repeats take over the airwaves). The show will be rebroadcast in its entirety next Tuesday, October 23.
In the meantime, here’s the rundown so far:
Team Britney Spears – Teens
Carly Rose Sonenclar
Team LA Reid – Over 25s
Team Demi Lovato – Young Adults
That leaves room for two more Young Adults and all four of Simon Cowell’s Groups.
So far, however, we think the judges have made pretty good choices. Britney shed 13-year-old old soul Reed Deming and out-of-his-league rapper James Tanner. LA cast off unmemorable Daryl Black and full-of-herself Tara Simon (making an all-male team). And Demi hasn’t let go of anyone yet, but Jennel and Willie were obvious good choices.
Stay tuned for the complete final 16 next week.
Fox issued a statement on the scheduling fiasco:
“Due to tonight’s rain delay of Game #3 of the National League Championship Series, the highly anticipated conclusion of the “Judges’ Homes” round of ‘The X Factor’ will air in its entirety on Tuesday, Oct. 23 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. The competition kicks into high gear on Tuesday, when the judges reveal which four acts in each of the four categories – Teens, Young Adults, Groups and Over 25s – continue and which two acts are eliminated.”
