“This is the biggest day of my life; I just won “Project Runway,” and I don’t know how the f*** I made it to this point,” the 33-year-old designer confessed. “I’m just beyond happy and proud.”
The Belarus native, whose meticulously polished and tailored looks were undeniable this season, won the judges over with his “organic architecture” collection during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Lincoln Center. Listening to the judges critique days before the runway, Dmitry tweaked his designs from matronly to modern, snagging him the win on Thursday night’s Season 10 finale.
But he had stiff competition. While Christopher Palu and Melissa Fleis were the first two designers eliminated from the competition, Fabio Costa ended up being the runner-up designer with his fluid “cosmic tribalism” designs that were waxing poetic in a majorly refreshing way. However, it was his conceptual approach that seemed to be slightly too niche for judges Heidi Klum, Michael Kors, Nina Garcia, and guest judge Jennifer Hudson.
In the end, Dmitry’s designs were more commercial, ready-to-wear, and could translate more easily into a Lord & Taylor collection.
We’re just glad we got to see the uber-serious guy smile. Way to go, Dmitry!
