TV food personality Paula Deen told Jay Leno there were two items in particular she had to cut out of her diet after she was diagnosed with diabetes.
Deen, 65, was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes in 2009, but didn’t disclose the condition until January 2012. That ignited a firestorm of criticism because in the intervening years, she didn’t cease promoting her fat- and sugar-laden lifestyle on her Food Network shows such as “Paula’s Home Cooking.”
But on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” Friday night, Deen said she’s lost 40 pounds since last January and kicked an addiction to sweets that had her consuming up to a full cup of sugar per day, according to her own calculations.
“I peed all over myself when you picked me up!” the outspoken, and famously tart-tongued, southerner declared when she sat down with Leno, after he hugged her and lifted her into the air after she came on stage.
She then talked about how she used to drink heavily sugared, southern-style sweet tea all day — a habit that likely contributed to her diabetes.
And she revealed something else that she used to eat often too — cheeseburgers with two Krispy Kreme donuts serving as the burger’s bun!
