Khloe Kardashian “wants to prove a point” as ‘X Factor’ host, says Simon Cowell.
When the “X Factor” live shows kick off tomorrow, it won’t just be the Top 16 contestants who are being judged. New hosts Khloe Kardahsian and Mario Lopez take over the reins from the ousted Steve Jones, and the big question is whether they’ll have the chemistry of Fred and Ginger and the hosting abilities of Ryan Seacrest.
Khloe, who is new to the job (Mario Lopez has had a long hosting career already), will have “nerves of steel” tomorrow night, “X Factor” judge and producer Simon Cowell told reporters.
Khloe’s first episode was supposed to be Thursday, but it was moved up because of the swift completion of the World Series.
“That’s one less day’s rehearsal,” Simon said. “My attitude is we could have pre-recorded it, which would have made it boring. On live TV things go wrong, which is one of the reasons we go live.
“I like to see people under pressure to see how they deal with it,” he added. “You don’t want robots.”
Simon described Khloe’s job as sticking up for contestants and being a fan.
“They [the hosts] are there to have opinions. That was lacking last season,” Simon said. “They’re entitled to say something.”
About pairing Khloe with Mario, Simon said two hosts are just better than one, adding that the network wanted the seasoned Mario to be paired with Khloe rather than a second newcomer, as Simon initially wanted.
“There’s so much talking one host has to do on these live shows…that we thought it would be more fun for the viewers to split it up,” Simon said “But we’re going to find out very soon whether it was a good idea or a terrible idea.”
