Late-Night Hosts Avoid Asking Pattinson, Stewart About Each Other

Clearly, questions about each other and the state of their relationship were off-limits when lovelorn “Twilight” co-stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart began making the rounds of the late-night shows Monday night.

Stewart, 22, turned up on the top-rated late-night show — “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” on NBC, while Pattinson, 26, did a guest shot on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” on ABC.

On neither show did the two stars talk about each other — either their personal relationship, which was derailed (at least temporarily) when she had an affair with the director of her movie “Snow White and the Huntsman,” or their professional relationship on and off the set of “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 2,” the movie they’re promoting in advance of its release on Nov. 16.

Instead, the two talked about the movie, especially the fact that it’s the last (supposedly) of the hugely successful series of five films that began in 2008 and transformed them (and some of their co-stars) into international movie stars. They also talked about this promotion tour, and without meaning to, they each gave the impression that they’re traveling separately, even though it’s been rumored recently that they’re back together as a couple.

Here’s what we mean by that: On “The Tonight Show,” Jay Leno asked Stewart where she’s been lately on the tour and she mentioned Japan (in the clip, above). (And by the way, Leno said he had performed in Tokyo recently — which really surprised us because we had no idea Leno had a following in Asia.) On the “Kimmel” show, Jimmy Kimmel asked Pattinson about his travels and he said Australia was the only place overseas where he’d appeared recently to promote the new movie. So, to us, it appeared these two really went their separate ways on the overseas portion of this promotion swing.

On the other hand, both of them are scheduled to appear on New York-based shows this week — which means they possibly are traveling from L.A. to the Big Apple together. She’s scheduled for “The Today Show,” “Live with Kelly and Michael” and “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” all on Wednesday. And he’s scheduled for the “Fallon” show on Thursday. At no point does it appear that the two are scheduled to appear on any show together.
