You know how every time you see a chubby cheeked cherub you think, ‘Awe, they should be a Gerber baby!’
Well, one lucky baby does get to be a Gerber Baby — the brand synonymous with all things baby held a contest this year to search for “the new face for a new generation” and picked a winner out of 300,000 babies submitted.
The first Gerber baby — Ann Turner Cook, who was the model for the original Gerber artwork and has been the iconic baby face of the company since 1928 — appeared on “Today” Tuesday morning to pass the torch on to the next Gerber baby.
“It’s wonderful for me to be a symbol of babies, worldwide,” said a proud Cook, who turns 84 this month. See What the Grown-Up “Gerber Baby” Looks Like in the Clip Above.
The winner of the Gerber baby contest was revealed this morning on the show — it’s little Mary Jane Montoya, who wins a $50,000 cash prize that her parents say is going straight to her education. See What the New “Gerber Baby” Looks Like in the Clip Above.
While the new Gerber Baby gets the cash, a yearlong ad campaign and bragging rights, she isn’t replacing Ann Turner Cook; that drawing of Cook’s adorable little face will remain the brand’s symbol.
And the original Gerber Baby approves of her successor.
“She is just adorable,” Cook said of Mary Jane. “She’s a delightful little person.”
