Spitfire singer Nicki Minaj can dish it out, but can she take watching it?
The controversial new “American Idol” judge appeared Monday on “Idol” host Ryan Seacrest’s radio show, where she confessed her concerns about watching herself on TV.
“I’m scared,” Minaj, 29, said of her reality TV judging debut.
“I don’t think I’m going to be able to watch it. I’m going to be so nervous,” she said of the Season 12 premiere. “But I know people are going to love it. I think it’s a great dynamic.”
She’s likely referring to the diva dynamic between herself and fellow new addition Mariah Carey, who were engaged in a behind-the-scenes feud early on in filming.
But it’s her judging style and how she handled the aspiring singers that has Nicki worried she was more naughty than nice this year.
“Maybe I shouldn’t have been so like…,” Minaj said hesitating, before admitting she finds it a challenge to hold her tongue. “It’s hard for me to not say how I really feel.”
“Everyone else is so nice,” the rapper explained. “I was just thinking back about some things and I was like, ‘I wonder if that was not so nice.'”
So in case you were wondering, it sounds like Minaj will be this season’s tough-love dealer.
Claiming that she has grown as an artist out of tough criticism, Minaj said, “I would like to be that person and to try to help people get that thick skin and to really give it their all, because it is a competition.”
The two-night Season 12 premiere of “American Idol” airs Wednesday, Jan. 16 (8-10 p.m. ET/PT) and Thursday, Jan. 17 (8-9 p.m. ET/PT) on Fox.
