What seemed like a horrific plane crash on a local Chicago road turned out to be less that it seemed for the anchors at local station WGN-Channel 9 on Friday morning.
Anchors Robin Baumgarten and Larry Potash looked shocked and alarmed as footage from their news helicopter showed a small airplane that crashed on a street, leaving a ripped off wing and damage to multiple cars while emergency vehicles surrounded the incident.
“These are our first pictures, folks, so bear with us. We’re not getting much information from anyone yet,” Baumgarten told morning viewers.
Turns out the whole tragedy was staged for a scene on NBC series “Chicago Fire” and the station wasn’t aware that a crew had been filming the scene for the show.
After a minute and a half of describing the incident, Potash was informed that this was not the tragedy they thought it was.
“We are just getting word that this is being shot as part of a TV show,” Potash said when informed of their mistake.
“Are you kidding me?” Baumgarten exclaimed. “They might want to tell the news folks when they’re doing this!”
