‘The Voice’: Another Coach is Out of the Game

Adam Levine on The Voice (NBC)

Another “Voice” coach has been eliminated from the competition, joining Christina Aguilera as a highly paid seat-filler with nothing to do. Adam Levine, whose two remaining contestants, Amanda Brown and Melanie Martinez, were both strong competitors on last night’s Top 6 performances, watched both of his girls get sent home tonight.

Despite losing his team in one night, Adam remained positive after Melanie’s early elimination, talking later on about how “The Voice” is just a stepping stone for Amanda along a big career.

Luckily, Amanda got one last chance to shine tonight, getting two chances to perform. First, she opened the show by completely upstaging Ne-Yo in a duet of “Let Me Love You.” Later, she did a duet with Cassadee Pope of Kelly Clarkson’s “Breakaway.”

Trevin Hunte also performed twice tonight, first in a duet with Terry McDermott of OneRepublic’s “Feel Again” and then joining Matchbox 20, along with Nicholas David.

Melanie also duetted with Nicholas on a great performance of “Criminal”—as per Christina Aguilera’s suggestion last night that Melanie sing some Fiona Apple, perhaps?

Melanie seemed to take her elimination well—better than most teenagers do at this point in the competition on these shows. Then again, she’s got a few years on “X Factor” children like Rachel Crow and Beatrice Miller, and those few years of maturity really showed in her gracious exit.

Tonight’s elimination leaves only four contestants—Team Blake’s Cassadee and Terry and Team Cee Lo’s Nicholas and Trevin. But considering the iTunes charts week after week, it seems like it’s Cassadee’s game to lose.

With that, I’ll leave you with some poetry. First from Cee Lo, who used alliteration to describe last night’s performances, followed by a final word from his mentee Nicholas David, describing what goes on backstage: “The fantasy, the fashion statements, the fire, the future; all the farts.”
