Plane Carrying TV, Music Personality Jenni Rivera Missing Over Mexico

A private jet reportedly carrying Latina music star and reality-TV personality Jenni Rivera and six others has been declared missing while still in flight from Monterrey, Mexico, to Toluca, Mexico — near Mexico City.

The story was being reported by multiple outlets Sunday afternoon. The stories say the jet took off in the wee hours of Sunday morning and went missing after take-off. Mexican authorities have now embarked on a search for the plane.

Rivera, 43, is one of the top stars in Spanish-language entertainment. A native of Long Beach, Calif., she has reportedly sold more than 20 million albums, and has recently been seen in her own reality series, “I Love Jenni,” on the cable channel known as Mun2, on which Spanish and English are spoken in more or less equal measure, reflecting the bilingual nature of many U.S. Hispanics. Just last week, Rivera reportedly reached an agreement with ABC for her own network sitcom, which would represent a big step for her career.

The sitcom, titled “Jenni,” would have Rivera playing “a strong, middle-class, single Latina woman working to raise a family using unique parenting skills, while struggling to run a family business and navigate her extended, co-dependent relatives — all while fighting the cultural perception that she needs a man to do it,” according to
