‘Downton Abbey’ Star Reveals Hidden Talent on ‘The View’

Barbara Walters, Jim Carter, and Rob James-Collier on "The View" (ABC)

The cast of “Downton Abbey” was virtually unrecognizable as they traded in their turn-of-the century garb for modern attire for their appearance on Wednesday’s episode of “The View.” While most of the cast came to dish on the Emmy-winning show’s upcoming third season, one actor had a different kind of performance up his sleeve. More on that in a minute.

Walters opened the interview with a plea: “Give us a little hint about what happens this year,” she begged.

“There is a wedding coming up… but the course of true love never does run smooth, so there are some pretty big bumps along the way,” revealed Hugh Bonneville, who stars as Robert Crawley, Earl of Grantham. “But they do get married,” he said of characters Matthew Crawley (Dan Stevens) and Lady Mary (Michelle Dockery).

Turning her attention to some of the show’s less aristocratic members, Walters presented Jim Carter, who plays Downton Abbey’s butler Mr. Carson, with a handful of apples. The reason? Carter came to America in 1978 to study at circus school. “Barbara, I am yours to serve,” said Carter, proceeding to show off his juggling skills to a delighted audience.

To Sophie McShera, who plays housemaid Daisy Mason, Walters prompted, “I hear that in the next episode, the inner b-tch in you comes out.

“She finds her inner b-tch,” said McShera of her normally timid character. “She’s channeling [‘Downton’ cook Mrs.] Patmore. She gets really bossy.”

Walters, clearly a fan of the drama, continued with more pressing questions.

“Will Bates get out of prison? You’re not going to tell me,” she said.

“It’s more than my life is worth,” replied Joanne Froggatt, who plays Anna, the head housemaid.

“Will Daisy fall in love?”

“Oh, yeah. Always,” said McShera.

“Will Thomas meet a nice man?”

“I don’t think so,” replied Rob James-Collier, who plays Thomas, the lead footman.

“Will Lord Branson get his money back?”

“Hopefully,” responded Bonneville.

“Will there be a fourth season?”

The answer from the entire cast was an emphatic “yes.”
