Shocking ‘X Factor’ Cut: Fifth Harmony Survives, Britney Spears Is Appalled

No one was more surprised than Fifth Harmony when the girl group found out it made it through to “The X Factor” finale next week. But while the girls and their coach Simon Cowell were all smiles upon news that the underdogs had survived another week, Britney Spears’ face revealed her disapproval. A long camera shot of Britney showed a combination of shock and revulsion, and maybe disdain, for the stupidity of the American public for voting for one of the more boring contestants to ever grace a music competition stage.

“Britney, you looked very … surprised,” Khloe Kardashian Odom said, trying hard to not just say, “Britney, you looked very ugly — when your giant angry eyes exploded and your neck swallowed your chin.”

There was no hiding her feelings after a face like that, so Britney just drove the point home in her response. “I was a little disappointed,” she said. A little? “I thought it was going to be the other way around with the groups,” with Fifth Harmony getting eliminated and Emblem3 sailing through.

But Britney was oh so wrong. It WAS the other way around — from what she predicted. Because Thursday night, Emblem3 went home.

The trio and Carly Rose Sonenclar were the last two acts to wait for judgment, and even when Britney’s teen got the good news that she had survived, still Britney didn’t look happy. Because Fifth Harmony’s victory ruined her night. And those too tan boys from California who maybe reminded her of an ex-boyfriend and the glory days of boy bands, were departing.

There was no leaderboard, so we’ll never know whether Fifth Harmony unseated Tate Stevens or Carly Rose Sonenclar from the top. Still, despite its good fortune tonight, it’s unlikely the group will be dividing $5 million among its five members next week. There are just four hours of “X Factor” left until we find out how America voted … and exactly what Britney Spears thinks about that.
