Get those emergency hankies that you only use for uplifting reality television ready.
When “The Biggest Loser” returns on Wednesday, January 9, the show will tackle the childhood obesity epidemic for the first time in its thirteen seasons. In fact, it’s this topic which lured trainer Jillian Michaels, herself a mother of two, back to the ranch.
“This issue is important,” Michaels says. “It’s important personally, it’s important globally, and having kids just really drives it home.”
Michaels says she was also compelled to return because of the “magic” the show possesses in effecting change not just on the people competing, but on the viewers at home, too. “The people that watch this show get deeply inspired,” she admits.
In addition to working with fifteen adults this season, Michaels and fellow trainers Bob Harper and Dolvett Quince will help reshape three overweight teenagers, who will spend most workouts at home and complete weigh-ins off camera.
NBC has just released an extended first look at Season 14, and as is often the case with “The Biggest Loser,” the video is an emotional roller coaster ride as both the teens and adults share their heartbreaking stories of obesity and their struggles to lose weight weight and get healthy. Take a look at the preview above, but be warned – you’ll need those tissues.
