Watch: Marv, Dave Continue Albert’s Annual ‘Achievement Awards’

We really had no idea Marv Albert was still doing his annual “Albert Achievement Awards” clip retrospective of funny moments in sports until we came across Marv on David Letterman’s “Late Show” Friday night on CBS.

Albert, 71, is the legendary sportscaster who has been coming on “Letterman” at around the end of every year since way back in the 1980s, when Letterman hosted NBC’s “Late Night” and Albert was one of NBC’s top sports personalities. (These days, Albert works for Turner and CBS.)

As he has done for decades, Albert brought with him a reel of “moments” from the past year in sports. (We were going to type “great” moments, but the fact is, we’d rather invite you to form your own opinion on that by watching the clip, above.)

Why bring this bit to your attention? It’s just because we happen to have great respect for broadcasting traditions such as this, especially since there are so few bits of this kind — ones that run for decades — left in our increasingly fragmented media world. Our only complaint: We wish this year’s “Achievement Awards” had been a little longer.

The opinions expressed are solely those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the views of Comcast.
