Troubled Notre Dame football star Manti Te’o has agreed to give his first TV interview to Katie Couric, ABC disclosed on Sunday.
The interview will air on Couric’s afternoon talk show, “Katie,” this Thursday (Jan. 24), but portions of it will turn up before that on various ABC News shows, ABC said. The network’s announcement didn’t specify which shows would air parts of the interview in advance, but the shows are likely to be “Good Morning America,” “World News with Diane Sawyer” and “Nightline.”
In addition, the announcement didn’t say if the interview has already been conducted, how long it would be, or where it was (or will be) conducted.
The press release did say that Te’o will be interviewed along with his parents, Brian and Ottilia Te’o.
Te’o is the Notre Dame player who was apparently the victim of a hoax in which someone pretended to be his on-line “girlfriend,” even going so far as to fool Te’o into thinking the young woman had died of leukemia.
