NBC has picked up the pilot for a remake of the 1960s series “Ironside” with Blair Underwood set to star in the title role.
The original detective drama starred Raymond Burr but this new version will offer a tough and sexy sleuth.
NBC describes Underwood’s “Ironside” as “a tough, sexy but acerbic police detective relegated to a wheelchair after a shooting who is hardly limited by his disability as he pushes and prods his hand-picked team to solve the most difficult cases in the city.”
The one-hour drama comes from Michael Caleo, David Semel, Teri Weinberg, John Davis and Jon Fox, and will be produced by Universal TV.
The original series ran on NBC from 1967 to 1975.
Underwood was last seen on NBC playing the President in “The Event.” He also had memorable turns on HBO’s “In Treatment” and “Sex and the City.”
