Meredith Vieira had just told Jay Leno that she’s a terrible singer, but despite her self-confessed lack of talent, the conversation led to Meredith singing on “The Tonight Show.”

Her song of choice for her late-night singing debut Friday night: The Carly Rae Jepsen hit “Call Me Maybe.” And so, Vieira — a 59-year-old TV newswoman (she still works for NBC News) — sang a song made famous by a 27-year-old Canadian pop star, even though Vieira really can’t sing.

Or can she? Rather than reveal our take on this vital issue, we invite you to form your own opinion by watching Meredith sing in the above clip (which comes with its own volume/mute control).

Meredith was in L.A. for NBC News, where she has continued to work since leaving “The Today Show” in 2011. Her assignment: Stories and interviews related to this weekend’s Oscars.

Speaking of which, watch this great Oscars bit from Friday’s “Tonight Show”:
