It was time for a tough love intervention on Monday night’s episode of “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” when Kim and Kyle Richards confronted Taylor Armstrong about her unhealthy relationship with alcohol.

After discussing Taylor’s odd disappearing act on last week’s episode, the sisters decided to pay Armstrong a visit to air their concerns. At Taylor’s house, the ladies wasted no time questioning what happened with Taylor’s impromptu getaway and leaving her daughter Kennedy with Kyle. “That was a hand-off issue,” Taylor said, claiming that there was a miscommunication between her mother and her nanny. Fair enough, but what about the larger issue — the one regarding her sounding “beyond tipsy” on the phone, and her general inability to keep it together in the presence of alcohol?
“I’m not going to sugar coat it,” Kim started. “This isn’t just about the other night. I do recognize when I see someone who I feel has a drinking problem.”
In her confessional, Taylor admitted that she doesn’t drink very often but that when she does, “I find that I can forget a little bit of all the stress I’m under and all the pain I’m feeling.”
Kim, who has struggled with substance abuse problems and is currently sober, told Taylor that the incident with Kennedy should have served as a “wake-up call,” saying that her own came after realizing that she was embarrassing both herself and her children with her drinking.
Citing the suicide of her ex-husband Russell Armstrong as a trigger, an emotional Taylor told the sisters, “It’s been a hell of a year. It’s been bad. There’s the death and trying to figure out one day how to explain to Kennedy that he’s not here and how that happened. Two drinks helps you forget and four makes you feel better for a little while…but then the next day I wake up and I’m in the darkest place that I can be in.”
Ultimately, Armstrong — who was surprisingly un-Oklahoma about the whole confrontation — was grateful for the input and said she would try harder not to use alcohol as a crutch any longer. “It’s something that I know I have to do, because I’m an only parent now and Kennedy needs me,” she said. “I have to make a future for us.”
