Trio of ‘Modern Family’ Stars Rescued from Stuck Elevator

It wasn’t a comedic situation when three stars of the ABC sitcom “Modern Family” found themselves trapped in a Kansas City elevator for an hour.

The three — Julie Bowen, Eric Stonestreet and Jesse Tyler Ferguson — found themselves imprisoned in a crowded elevator with 12 others when the conveyance became stuck between floors high up in a Sheraton hotel in downtown Kansas City, Mo., on Friday night.

The snafu made them an hour late for a scheduled on-stage appearance in the hotel’s ballroom.

They were headliners at a fundraising event for the Boys and Girls clubs of Kansas City, according to an account on the Wichita Eagle Web site (here). They went on at 10 p.m., rather than the pre-appointed 9 o’clock start time, the newspaper reported. That was after they and the others were rescued by members of the Kansas City Fire Department.

Photos and videos were taken during the ordeal. A very brief video snippet shot by Ferguson can be found here, and the People magazine Web site has a photo from inside the elevator here.

There’s no word yet on whether this elevator misadventure will form the basis for an upcoming storyline on “Modern Family.”
